Authenticity” is a word that perfectly captures what the Wines of Tejo are all about.

The Wines of Tejo has recently ramped up their promotional efforts in the U.S. market. A key feature of the 2017 program includes a major presence at the USA Trade Tasting in NY May 16/17, 2017. “12 wineries will be exhibiting, showcasing the distinctive wines which include unique blends of both indigenous and international varieties. We will also be putting on a Masterclass presented by noted wine educator May Matta-Aliah,”  Said Luis de Castro, Chairman of the Board of Wines of Tejo.

U.S. importers are discovering the incredible QPR (Quality/Price Ratio) which enables the Tejo region to produce both entry level, as well as wines that fit the sweet-spot of $12-$20 retail.

“Additionally, we recognize that we need to take the lead in educating our wineries to ‘Get U.S. Market Ready.’  We’ve worked with Bevology, Inc. an experienced American wine trade marketing company to train the members on everything from the Three-Tier system, through price structures and understanding how to align winery objectives with the needs of importers and distributors,” added de Castro

“Authenticity” is a word that perfectly captures what the Wines of Tejo are all about.  “Our location spanning the Tejo river has created wines that truly exhibit a sense of place and express the terroir not only of the region but also the indigenous varieties are grown here, a legacy dating back to Roman times.  These wines are finding a natural welcome from American consumers, particularly Millennials who are attracted to the combination of heritage grapes combined with international varieties.

“It’s taken us two thousand years to get to this point, but we feel we are now ready for prime time in the U.S. market,” concluded de Castro.

Comissão Vitivinícola Regional do Tejo (CVR Tejo), known in the United States as Wines of Tejo, is an organization that oversees the viticultural and vinification practices of over 80 producers from the region. Nestled in the heart of Portugal along the banks of the Tejo River, which stretches from just beyond the Spanish border to the Atlantic Ocean at Lisbon, the Tejo region has been producing wines from native Portuguese varietals since the Middle Ages. The Tejo River’s breadth and strength elementally impact the soil and climate of the region, deeply defining the region’s terroir. These wines embody the enthusiasm, commitment and collaborative nature of its producers, and reflect the unique terroir and winemaking heritage of the Tejo region.
